The University of Pennsylvania Swimmer Lia Thomas has been nominated for the NCAA’s “Woman of the Year” award.

According to a statement from the NCAA, the University of Pennsylvania has nominated a transgender athlete to recognize female student athletes for this award.

“Established in 1991, this award recognizes outstanding female student athletes in the community, athletics, and scholars throughout their college career, exhausting their qualifications,” the NCAA’s recommendation page states. ..

NCAA member schools have announced that they are “encouraged to celebrate graduated female student athletes by being nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.”
