Magic Johnson’s clutch hook shot lifted the Lakers past the Celtics in game 4 of the Finals on this date in 1987

Magic Johnson’s Gore Head Hookshot with two seconds left pulled the Los Angeles Lakers to the 107-106 Roadwin against the Boston Celtics. The victory gave the Lakers an overwhelming 3-1 series lead.

The Celtics were ahead of the game for most of the game, but Johnson helped the Lakers return to the fourth quarter. They chased 106-105 when he hit Kevin McHale with a go-a-head shot. Boston had a last chance, but Larry Bird missed the buzzer-fought shot.

Johnson ended with Leads Los Angeles with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. James Worthy scored 21 points.

McHale led the road to Boston, finishing with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Larry Bird finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. He played for 47 minutes.

The Celtics won Game 5 and extended the series. The Lakers then won the title at home in Game 6. Johnson was selected as the Final MVP.
