Men’s Track and Field closes historic season as NCAA Outdoor runner-up

Eugene, Oregon – The second men’s athletic team finished the 2022 outdoor season as a national runner-up after scoring 38 team points.

In second place, the Longhorns achieved the best results in 25 years in the field competition, finishing second and three times in school history. Texas is currently a four-time NCAA outdoor runner-up in the history of the program in 1987, 1988, 1997 and 2022.

Texas started when Friday’s action ended in 6th place in the 4×100 relay. Daniel Garland, Willington Wright, Marcels Moore And Mikaia Christian ran a time of 39.06. Performance is the sixth fastest time in Texas history and ranked as the fourth best time in the NCAA Championship.

Jonathan Jones After finishing 4th in the 400m dash, he added 5 points to the team total. His 44.93 effort is now the seventh time he has run 400 meters in less than 45 seconds and is now the top nine in Texas history. It was also the second time in his career, finishing fourth outdoors and earning his sixth national honor.

Harris also added a 4th place finish with a time of 20.45 in the second half of the 200m dash. He finished in the top five for the third time in his career and is now six all-Americans.

Texas 4×400 relay Brian HeronLight, Caleb Harbin Jones scored the last five points of the Longhorns and finished fourth at 3: 01.69. Jones posted 43.24 on the Texas Anchor Leg.

Friday’s relay finish was the first time both relays had won the All-America honor of the first team since 1988.
