Michael Jordan outdueled Charles Barkley in a Finals thriller on this date in 1993

Both Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley performed in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Chicago Bulls took the lead in the 2-0 series with a 111-108 road victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The Bulls couldn’t stop Berkeley, but the Sands couldn’t stop Jordan. Berkeley finished with 42 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists. Jordan finished with 42 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists.

Chicago led most of the game, but Phoenix took the lead in their quarter and remained close in the fourth quarter.

An important element of the game was Scottie Pippen’s powerful play. He had a triple-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. He also had a significant block and rebound in the second half of the fourth quarter to maintain Chicago’s lead.

For Sands, star point guard Kevin Johnson struggled. He finished with only 4 points with 2-8 shots and fouled from the game.

The loss was devastating as Phoenix dropped the first two games of the series at home. They counterattacked to win Game 3 in Chicago, but the Bulls won six games. It was the third consecutive championship.
