Mississippi State volleyball wins exhibition against Louisiana

STARKVILLE — The Mississippi volleyball team defeated Louisiana in straight sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) in an exhibition match at the Newell-Grisom Building on Saturday.

The state had two players register 10 or more kills, including Gabby Weyden, who scored a double-double in the afternoon.

Head coach Julie Dirty Dennis said, “The energy, the atmosphere and the fans came out and it was great for our team to play in front of the fans and let go of the anxiety.” There were some things early in the year that we had to work on, and I was really excited by their reaction and resilience.”

Waden led all MSU attackers with 12 kills, ripped .310 hit clips, and also collected 11 digs. Lauren Myrick had 10 kills, 8 digs and a receive percentage of 1.000.

Freshman Sophie Aggie got her first start as a Bulldog, racking up seven kills and one block in the afternoon.

The Bulldogs took the first set back and forth marked by ten draws and three lead changes with a score of 25-23.

“This game was a great opportunity to see what we still have to work on,” Darty Dennis said. “We need to sort out the initial contact a little bit.

we were pretty clean. There are 13 errors out of 100, which is 13%. It’s a pretty good attacking day for the Dawgs as they want to stay below 14%. I need to figure out some lineups and personnel. You have a week to prepare. We are excited about where we are now and where we are going. I am very happy today. ”

MSU went all out in the second set by holding the lead throughout the set before the Bulldogs won the second set with a score of 25-20.

Mississippi State put the finishing touches on the third set with a steady effort. At 20-18, the Bulldogs pulled away with a kill from his Myrick to wrap up the win 25-19.

“The fans are unreal and their energy is unmatched,” said Dirty Dennis. “We feel them every second and every minute of the game. We can’t thank them enough for what they give us. I have an advantage, but it’s because of my family.”

Mississippi will travel to South Bend, Indiana for matches against Milwaukee and Notre Dame. Friday’s season opener against Milwaukee begins at 3:30 p.m., while Saturday’s game in Notre Dame begins at 4 p.m.
