Mountain Hawks Conclude Historic Season with Loss to Delaware in NCAA Tournament

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Lehigh field hockey program ended its season Wednesday afternoon with a 4–0 loss to Delaware in the team’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament at Karen Shelton Stadium in North Carolina.

In the first period, the Blue Hens hit six off Lehigh’s one-out, and Delaware scored twice within two minutes near the end of the quarter. The first goal was scored from a penalty corner and eventually became the winning goal.

The Mountain Hawks had three shots and two goals, but neither team scored and Delaware entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

The Bluehens scored early in the second half and scored at 1:05 in the first half to extend their lead to 3-0. Delaware then scored the fourth and final goal of the match with 35 seconds left in the third period to set the score at 4–0.


Lehi dominated the fourth period, allowing no shots from the Blue Hens, and had six shots, three of which scored on goal. The final seconds ticked away, and the game and the Mountainhawks’ season was over.

“We have a lot of credit for our class this season,” added Dallmayr. “They committed to Lehi when it was not cool to commit to come to Lehi. They had an option. They did it. They succeeded and continued to lead the group around them in the same way to achieve this level of success.”

Lehi finishes a historic season with many accolades. The Mountain Hawks won their first Patriot League championship since 1994 and their second title in program history. The team finished the season with an overall record of 13-8, tying the 1984 team for the third-most wins in school history.

“We are lucky to be able to celebrate the Patriot League Championship. Take some time off, reflect, give your body the rest it needs, then go back to work and start training again for next season.
