Jody Meeks was the absolute star of the Kentucky Wildcats during the 2009 season during his sophomore year.
The sniper shot over 40% from three-point range and averaged 23.7 points.
Drafted 41st overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.
In addition to the Bucks, he played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons.
Most recently, he played for the Raptors as they defeated the Golden State Warriors to win the 2019 NBA Championship.
He hasn’t been in the NBA for several years, but the 35-year-old G League last seasonand he is now Team USA playing in the FIBA AmeriCup.
Interview with Steve Drumwright on the Team USA Basketball website (h/t rally brown sport), Meeks announced that this would be his final stop as a player.
Meeks via drum lights: “I’m young, but I’m a little older in basketball,” Meeks said bluntly. “I’m not a spring chicken anymore. and this would be the icing on the cake.
He is retired from professional basketball.
From Drumwright’s article: “This past season, his Toronto ties saw him play 18 games for the Raptors 905 in the NBA G League. “I’m retired,” and made this occasion a little more special. ”
Meeks will now become an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron, according to Drumwright.
Meeks finished his NBA career averaging career averages of 9.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per contest in 539 regular-season games with a 37.1% shooting percentage from 3-point range.
He has also played in 34 NBA playoff games.
Overall, he was a very good role player who could always be counted on as a shooter.
In 2014, he had the best season of his career while playing for the Lakers.
The ex-Wildcat averaged 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting over 40% from 3-point range.
