NBA rumors: Markieff Morris says he has sights set on Sixers

The Sixers signed James Harden not sometime, but someday.

Harden hasn’t signed with the Sixers since the opening of the free agent, and the only reason for his decision to decline the player’s choice is for basketball operations president Daryl Morey to peruse the open market and trade routes in other ways. Because I’m busy checking to see if there is any to improve this team before fixing Harden to a commitment.

Eric Gordon is a major name widely known as a target for the Sixers (through trade), but it doesn’t seem to be very promising at this point.

Let’s look elsewhere. Take a look at another veteran, the new Sixers member, PJ Tucker, who played for the Miami Heat last season.

Enter Markieff Morris, an 11-year veteran from Philadelphia and the current free agent. Morris confirmed in a social media conversation with his fans Thursday night that he wanted to go home for the season and play for the Sixers:

Morris also said he is currently a “selective” free agent and “signs immediately”, not because he is not interested.

interesting!

Obviously there are two aspects to closing a deal, but it’s worth noting that Morris wants to play for the Sixers. He basically did everything he was trying to do professionally-he earned over $ 50 million, spent 10 years in the league, and won the championship. Pretty good!

And he can still hit the ball, so now it’s about fit and a mutually beneficial relationship.

So … does Morris make sense when Sixers fill out the roster?

It depends on a few things: the future of fringe guys like Isaiah Joe and Furkan Korkmaz, the possibility of Eric Gordon joining Sixers at the closing date, and whether the team sees Morris as a productive and valuable addition. ..

Morris may not be so valuable, removing the long-term injuries he suffered last season. I imagine he might have had for the lowest veteran, and it would be a little less than $ 3 million for his service hours.

Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Morris has played 136 games, shooting 43.2 FG% / 34.9 3P% / 76.4 FT%, averaging 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. His defensive on / off stats have been fluctuating in recent years, some of which may only be related to his teammates on those teams.

Morris isn’t exactly an Earth-destroying addition, but the playoff experience, the relative ability to shoot from the depths, and most importantly, the physicality of the team, which clearly emphasizes next season’s physicality and toughness. And will bring toughness.

See what Molly prioritizes and see if there is any market around Morris, but if he’s willing to play cheaply, there might be something here.
