NBA rumors: Ty Jerome, Warriors talking about NBA training camp contract

The Warriors already have 20 players on their training camp roster, but that hasn’t stopped them from exploring additions to the team.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania reported Saturday night, citing sources, that the Warriors are in talks with guard Ty Jerome about a training camp deal.

Jerome, 25, was selected 24th overall from Virginia by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019 NBA Draft. The next day, he was traded to the Boston Celtics. A few weeks later, he was traded again to the Phoenix Suns.

As a 2019-20 rookie, Jerome appeared in 31 games for the Suns, averaging 3.3 points in 10.6 minutes. However, he was traded again in the summer of 2020, before turning Kelly to the Warriors as part of a package that landed Oubre Jr. in his OKC Oklahoma City deal to the Thunder.

In 33 games with the Thunder in the 2020-21 season, Jerome averaged 10.7 points on 44.6% shooting from the field and 42.3% shooting from behind the 3-point line. Jerome’s role increased last season, but his numbers dipped to 7.1 points per game in his 48 contests.

The Warriors know Jerome’s abilities firsthand. At the end of the 2020-21 season, in Oklahoma City’s loss to Golden State, he scored his 23 points on eight of his 14 shooting.

If Jerome and the Warriors reach an agreement on a deal, he is likely to join the team when he returns from Japan in the coming days.
