NCAA volleyball: Top men’s teams all win; one women’s job filled, another opens

Penn State lost 24-24 in the first set to Pepperdine in Austin, Texas on Friday, but then world No. 4 Nittany Lions returned to finish 26-25 in the fifth wave. We beat them 24, 25-18, 19-25. 25-14. At the First Point Collegiate Challenge nightcap, No. 15 Lewis was also down 24-22 in the first set, but in this set he saw No. 8 Stanford eventually beat him 24-26, 25-25. Won 23, 25-20, 25-22.

Other winners include top-ranked Hawaii, second-ranked UCLA, third-ranked Long Beach State, and sixth-ranked Ball State.

They were back at the Texas Capitol for Day 2 of the First Points Collegiate Eight Challenge, with Pepperdine facing Lewis and Stanford facing Penn State.

Other games scheduled include UC San Diego at UCLA, Long Beach State at George Mason and UC Irvine at Concordia Irvine.

Pennsylvania (5-0) hit .400 for EIVA and beat the undefeated record pepper dine (4-1) of MPSF. Pennsylvania State University’s best start since 2009. Jonker recorded 20 kills and 4 errors in 39 attacks. He added 2 assists, 3 blocks, and 5 digs, Michal Kowal had 11 kills on 1 error in 16 attacks, 2 assists, 4 aces, 4 digs, 3 blocks, 1 solo, and Toby Ezeonu had 20 unmissed attacks. Recorded 10 kills. Brett Wildman, his EIVA Player of the Year last year, made his season debut with 7 kills and his 8 digs. Jalen Jasper led Pepperdine with 21 kills and in the third set he had eight kills.

Stanford (5-0) Get a career-high 21 kills against Theo Snowy in the win Lewis (3-3). Snoey had 2 aces, 7 digs and 2 blocks in his 32 offenses, where he recorded 5 errors and posted .500.

Pepperdine’s Max Rocket led the Flyers with 18 kills…

Hawaii (4-0) Sweep visit St. Francis (0-4). The Greek pair of Dimitrios Mouchlias and Spyros Chakas had 14 kills each… long beach state (3-0) sweep Ryu (3-2) At George Mason, Virginia. 424, with 35 kills on 7 errors on 66 swings. Spencer Olivier had 10 kills in 16 attacks he made 1 error… UCLA (5-0) Sweep Visit No.12 UC Santa Barbara (1-6) After escaping 32-30 in the first set. The Bruins won his next two, 25-17, 25-21. Grant Sloane has 11 kills, Ethan Champlin, Alex Knight and Merrick McHenry each have 10 kills…

ball state (1-2) Sweep with a batting average of .542 harvard (2-1). The Cardinals had 45 kills and 6 errors in 72 offenses. Tinaishe Ndavazocheva leads with 10 kills … No. 7 University of California, Irvine (5-0) Sweep visit Concordia (3-2). Francesco Sani had 16 kills, a .419 batting average, aces, six digs and three blocks…

Among other results on Friday, Loyola Chicago swept NJIT. BYU took Fairleigh Dickinson by storm. Adrian defeated Alderson Broaddus by 5. Quincy was attacked twice at the Lincoln Memorial and Charleston. Hiram defeated Kentucky State in his fourth inning. Mount Olive swept Merrimack and Randolph Macon beat Burton by four. Limestone defeated King by 4. D’Youville took the American International by storm. CSUN takes Menlo by storm. Purdue Fort Wayne dominated the Missouri S&T.

St. Louis Adopters: The new coach is former SLU player and assistant Andrea Beatty, who was an assistant at Denver. Beatty replaces former St. Louis coach Kent Miller, who finished 18-13 last season and 10-8 in the Atlantic 10.

St. Louis has not participated in the NCAA Tournament since 2009, the year before Beatty started playing in school.

Georgetown opens: David Heller has stepped down as coach at the Washington, D.C. school after three seasons as head coach.The Hoyas finished 4-25 last season and were 2-16 in the Big East. Georgetown has not participated in the NCAA Tournament since his 1999.
