The 2022 DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship game will be played between Texas and Louisville. The Cardinals are participating in a championship match for the first time in program history, and Texas are looking to win their first championship since 2012. The Longhorns have been in the championship game three times since then, all three of which are runners-up. We’re winning. The cards are about to make history. Victory means the first ever ACC school win and the first female head coach to lift the trophy, for the first time in the program’s history.

How each team fared in the semi-finals:
The Texas Longhorns played their first game of the night, defeating San Diego in four sets. Torreros entered the match as an underdog, but was caught on fire. The Longhorns were the best team in the country all season, but they had some concerns early in the game. The Longhorns were held to a low .056 clip in the first set. Cards beat Pitt in the second match in five setters. These two teams have already met twice in the regular season and split the series. A strong start is essential for the cards, and that’s exactly what they did. They started the first set with a 6–0 run and he stepped into the gas until the end. But Pitt was relentless. The Panthers were able to crush their opponents and went the distance in this matchup. After making the match night after set, Card put together a fantastic run at the end of the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the match, with both teams serving very strong behind his lines. , putting a lot of pressure on the passer, but the card was dominating from the line. There are some great matchups that will see two of the best teams go head-to-head for the 2022 national title all season long. It also has a bit of a historical twist. To jog memory, just a few years ago in his 2019, Louisville stepped into the spotlight after defeating Texas in the third round of the tournament. Dani Basboom Kelly wore a red sparkly blazer, and it was a miracle. Little did we know that a name like Aiko Jones would become the most famous name in college volleyball.
Both of these teams are now single seeded and vying for the national title. The storylines are endless. Logan Eggleston has been one of the top players in the country for years. She returned for her final season, her fifth, with only one goal in mind: her national title. She can already check her NPOY from the list. The Longhorns recently lost a championship match to Kentucky in 2020. It was then that one of their star hitters, Maddy Skinner, was dressed in blue. They want this title. They’ve been here before and have fallen over and over again. And now they want it to end.
As I mentioned earlier, Louisville has the potential to make a lot of history. To repeat these feats, the victory would become the first title in program history, the first ACC program to win, and the first female head coach to win. Many players have participated in the promotion to Power in this program, which is now in its final season. The team’s top scorer, Claire Chaussé, is entering her final season. And the leader, heart and soul of this offense, Anna Devere, who has missed 12 games this season through injury, came just in time to dominate it in the postseason.
As far as these two teams actually go against each other, we have two very deep teams and it should be a very fun matchup. Louisville ranks third in the nation in blocks per set with his 3.02. Texas ranks second in the nation in batting average with a .335 clip. I have to give something. Besides, we have two very strong serving teams. Card said he had 10 service aces in the semifinals and Texas has been under serious pressure from the service line all season. Eggleston and DeBeer are his two of the toughest servers in the NCAA.
Add to that two of the best liberos on the net, Elena Scott of Louisville and Zoe Fleck of Texas. Fleck was named a first-team All-American and Scott was named a second-team All-American, both of which are phenomenal.
On the other side, Aiko Jones has a huge challenge to match up with Eggleston over the net. They need to constrain Eggleston a bit and force Texas to use other options again. Midfield can get pretty dangerous.
The best part is that either of these teams can win this matchup. Two of the deepest lineups in the country, two very energetic teams will face off for the trophy. I couldn’t be more excited.
