NCAAW title moves to ABC

Did they do this out of excitement? Tennessee Lady VolsFor the first time in nearly a decade, UT’s prestigious program enters this year looking like a top five team and a national championship contender.? Disney made its own move at the same time.

ESPN announced The women’s basketball national championship games will air on ABC in 2023. It will be the first time since 1995 that the women’s national championship will be broadcast on the radio network (then her CBS).

Of course, the world of women’s college basketball has changed a lot since then. The Tennessee Lady Vols ironically achieved her all-time high of three consecutive victories from 1996 to her 1998, in her first three years when the title game moved to ESPN.

What the move really did, however, was to further expose women’s basketball to the world of national sports, which resulted in more competition.

But this year all signs point to them becoming a national powerhouse again. They were a top five team last year before major injuries set them back. are all healthy, and have added four elite transfers and five-star recruits.

That’s more than the three losses they suffered, one of which missed the second half of last season and another to injury or a year out. Simply put, there’s reason to believe that the Tennessee Lady Vols will be in this year’s Final Four.

Harper’s team was able to recruit and revive the UT brand for the first time in nearly 30 years that a national title game was distributed over the air network. This obviously helps the women’s basketball brand as a whole, but it’s a huge deal for the Lady Vols to ride that wave.

All of this makes it more important than ever for them to meet expectations this year. Too much talent, long-term impact of the program. Not making it to the Final Four means that you missed a chance twice as a result.

Last year’s South Carolina Gamecocks and UConn Huskies Women’s National Championship Game garnered more attention than any title game in the sport’s 20 years. This is why it makes sense for ESPN to move the game to ABC.

Simply put, the stage is set for the Tennessee Lady Vols. Harper is entering her fourth year with the program and finally appears to have reached the level she had planned. As she does, the title Her Game moves from her ESPN to ABC. This is the only time UT will reappear in the sport.
