Nets allow Summer League record 120 points in loss to Grizzlies, 120-84

Nets was behind the scenes of the Summer League history on Tuesday night.

The Grizzlies dominated the Nets, losing 120-84 in the third of the four Summer League stints. The 120 points compiled by Memphis set the Summer League record for most of the points earned by a single team (Denver Nuggets 120 points in 2007).

After the first half of the dysfunction that put the net in a 24-point hole, Brooklyn came out third with a purpose. Brooklyn became a nearly single digit game and made a 12-0 run to slice the deficit into 13 points.

It was the closest Nets got with a short-lived comeback. Memphis regained his composure and interrupted the contest with a 36-point victory. It wasn’t a Brooklyn night with few positive takeaways.

Cameron Thomas, who played in Game 3 at No. 1 in the NBA rankings Summer League MVP Ladder, Scored 29 points for Team High with 9-of-19 shots (0-of-4 from 3 points range) from the field, 3 assists, rebounds, assists, and 1 steal and pairing with Team High 27 minutes. He currently leads all players with an average of 28.7 points.

With a tight victory over Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, Thomas, who had a perfect 15-15 from the foul line, followed with a 13-11 effort from the free throw line.

Day’Ron Sharpe, who closed the third quarter up and down with a smooth recovery block, finished almost double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds in 23 minutes. The young big lost a total of 2 blocks. David Duke Jr. also finished in double digits with 12 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 3 steals in 26 minutes.

Memphis scored an overwhelming victory with 59.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from downtown, while Brooklyn shot a disastrous shot of only 39.2 percent overall and 25.0 percent from behind the arc. The Grizzlies rebounded (45-27) and dished more than twice as much as the contest assist (31-15).

Brooklyn will finish four summer league stints against Minnesota on Thursday, July 14th. The game will pay a tip at 9 pm ET. Nets, who holds a 1-2 record of entering the match on Thursday night, is instructed to play a comfort match on July 16th or July 17th. Last year, the team sat in Thomas, Duke, Sharp and Kaiser Gates. Schedules are often determined by factors such as team rivals and broadcast / schedule considerations.
