No. 2 Women’s Soccer Rallies By UCF

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – North Carolina’s No. 2 women’s soccer team bounced back from a 1-0 first-half deficit to beat UCF 2-1 in their final non-conference game of the season at Dorrance Field on Sunday afternoon.

In another recent matchup between UNC (7-1) and UCF (2-2-2) in 2017, it was the Knights who recorded a 2-1 comeback win after a 1-0 draw.

The Tar Heels had an emotional and physical victory over arch-rival Duke on Thursday, but UCF took the field for the first time in a week.

‘Obviously we were tired against Duke,’ says UNC head coach Anson Drans Said. “We still have to have the ability to bring the A-game, even though we are tired. UCF didn’t play on Thursday. ”

“Part of the reason we won was because we subbed. I think we could see the turn of the game going on in the second half. We dominated more and more and had more chances. It’s a credit to our depth.”

The Knights score their first goal on the board after Ellie Moreno’s shot goes past the UNC goalkeeper Emmy Allengiving UCF a 1–0 lead in the 24th minute.

Carolina will begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday, September 17 against No. 5 Virginia. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM at Drans Field.
