Offense, defense analysis: Breaking down FSU football practice

Florida — Today was the last practice. Seminole, Florida Head to Saturday’s mock match to prepare for the Duquesne Dukes. It’s been a hard but productive one, with visible improvements compared to where the team was three weeks or so ago.

And now that camp is over, FSU is ready to show off its improvements when the season starts next week.

Head coach Mike Nobel said, “There are irritable people who are ready to go up against someone else, and that’s a good thing.” Just the overall consistency of things. “

Overall, the day was evenly matched in terms of which team ‘won’, with the defense leading slightly. There was a lot of situational work and one-on-ones, and we saw some particularly interesting matchups, providing valuable reps and greater intensity and competitive opportunities.

Here are today’s observations:

Better offense than yesterday

Aside from a bad snap and a nice cover by defensive back Omarion Cooper, in one series drill, the offense moved the ball down the field and sent two huge 15-yard passes to tight end Preston Daniels. . Benson was also able to knock off a huge run ending drive at FG range. the kick was good.

At 1-1, wide receiver Malik McLain had a nice touchdown on defensive back Greedy Vance, who seemed to be under a lot of hits on that particular drill. A few plays later, wide receiver Mycah Pittman was able to pass him in the end zone with a nice juke move.

*Defensive back Jammy Robinson garnered praise from Novell with a resounding high-five. When he faced Ontalia his Wilson in the back of his zone in his corner, he was able to punch the ball out in front of him in the air.

There were many blitzes today, following Novell’s desire to put them in an uncomfortable situation in a post-practice interview. The line held its own for the most part compared to yesterday, but could clean up a few things.

Lineman Jazston Turnetine did a great job fending off defenders in his team and doing pass rush drills. He and Fabian Lovett had some good reps, with Turnetine looking like the best showing his ability to come down from one block and quickly switch to the next lineman to keep the sacks in check.

tight end showing improvement

Tight end Wyatt Lecter had a good day picking up pass rushes and making some good catches paired with Daniel to help move the offense forward quickly. All in all, I think Marqueston Douglas (who quietly had a great camp) had the best day out of the group. On one play, he managed to save a chipped pass by linebacker Karen DeLoach and appeared to end the play, but Douglas quickly turned around and caught the ball anyway. He also made touchdowns and conscious blocking in the run game by building a large wall next to the tackle and helping the passing game.

stand out in the secondary

There were several interceptions on the day and defensive back Omarion Cooper put in a great performance. He had an interception going 1-1, along with some big pass breakups. It seems that he did not allow himself to be caught.

Defensive back Azarey’h Thomas made an impressive interception in the end zone of the pass. Thomas was covering ATH Joshua Burrell crossing the back of the end zone when the pass went airborne. There was a moment for him to react, and he caught the ball and tried to head in the opposite direction before being tackled.

SAFETY Hakeem Dent showed off his athleticism by defending a pass thrown high by Johnny Wilson. He swept the end zone, jumped into the air for an imperfection, and then put only the tip of his finger on the ball

Tomorrow’s scrimmage will not be open to the media and there will be no post-practice availability — the next opportunity to hear from Mike Nobel is that game week starts on Monday (the Seminoles also have their first official depth chart of the season). release).
