Official: Nets ink David Duke Jr. to two-way contract, re-unite with Chris Chiozza

The Nets have officially re-signed David Duke Jr. to a two-way deal and reunited with point guard Chris Chioza on an Exhibit 10 deal. The Nets unveiled both signings Friday morning.

With the deal, the Nets are one man short of a full training camp roster of 20 and have 12 Standard Guaranteed Contracts, 3 Partial or Non-Guaranteed Contracts, 2 Two-Way Contracts, and 2 Exhibit 10 Contracts. All but one deal (Donovan Williams’ Exhibit 10) has been formally announced by the team. The odd composition of the camp roster with few fully guaranteed deals makes it look like Sean Marks wants maximum flexibility in his training camp. The Nets keep his MLE worth $6.5 million to taxpayers.

After being undrafted in 2021 NBA Draft, Duke Jr. signed a two-way deal with Brooklyn. With the Nets, Duke averaged 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game. He started in his 13 games with Brooklyn and played a regular for his Island his Nets much of his season. He averaged 16.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 29.5 minutes per game. Duke is 22 years old.

Most recently, the guard averaged 19.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 28.6 minutes in five games with the Nets’ Summer League team in Vegas over the summer. Two-way can always be converted into a standard deal at any moment, like Kessler Edwards was at the end of last season.

NetsDaily first report Duke Jr. was likely on a two-way deal for the 2022-23 season. Duke held a standard deal, but the difference this year was about $1 million.

The Nets also signed free agent guard Chris Chioza. A league source told NetsDaily that his deal is Exhibit 10, meaning that if it cuts to Brooklyn, his G-hi league rights will transfer to Long Island. I’m sure. Chioza, 26, has played for four different G League teams and he has played for four different NBA clubs.

Chioza also had a two-way deal while in Brooklyn. He played in a total of 40 games (three starts), averaging 5.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 12.8 minutes per game. In his stint with the Nets, Chioza also played for Long Island — his 10 games during the 2019-20 season. He played in his G League for a total of three seasons, averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 boards, 7.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a total of 70 games he averaged in 33.1 minutes per game.

With offseason signings and re-signing, the Nets now have five players with NBA championship experience. Patti Mills (2014), Kyrie Irving (2016), Kevin Durant (2017 and 2018), Markieff Morris (2020), Chioza (2021.)
