The Dallas Mavericks won their first NBA Championship on this day nine years ago. Dirk Nowitzki was one of the greatest personal playoff runs of all time, with the Mavericks defeating the overwhelmingly-backed Miami Heat team in the NBA Finals 4-2 after beating 2-1 in the series.

The legendary forward from Germany averaged 26 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2 assists per game in the final series against a heat called the MVP of the series.

In the 21 post-season games he played, he averaged 27.7 with 46% shots from the field and 48.8% shots from the three-point line. He also added 8.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Of course, it wasn’t just Nowitzki. Tyson Chandler was the perfect rim protector, but Jason Terry, Shawn Marion and DeShawn Stevenson were invaluable to Dallas.
