Oregon State Athletics Announces 2022 Hall Of Fame Class

Corvallis, Oregon – Oregon State University is excited to announce the 2022 Hall of Fame class. The 2022 class will be approved on Saturday, November 5th and will be held when Oregon State University celebrates its 50th anniversary.th Anniversary of this year’s Title IX.


Most of the teams represented in this class were organized under the Association for Intercollegiate Athletes (AIAW), which was established in 1971 until NCAA launched women’s sports in 1982. OSU Women’s Rowing participated in the National Women’s University Rowing Association. The national championship.


In this class, in addition to 21 student athletes and one coach, women’s golf (1974), gymnastics (1980), softball (1979, 1980, 1981), women’s athletics (1972, 1979 relay team) The team will join.


The 1974 women’s golf team was led by Lin Guggenheim and was the last year of the two-golfer style. Rise Alexander and Mary Budke led the team to third place nationwide. Both were nominated for the Hayward Amateur Athletes of the Year Award after the season. Alexander later spent 24 seasons as head coach at Oregon State University, leading the team to 11 postseason appearances.


1980 Women’s Gymnastics Team: AIAW National Championship 4th place team (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and AIAW Regional Team Champion (Spokane, WA). Oregon State University participated in Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and finished fourth in the AIAW National Championship Team Tournament. This is the best result ever by the OSU Women’s Gymnastics Team. (The 1982 team also finished fourth in the first NCAA National Championship.) OSU’s Hall of Fame Mary Ayotte (Law) and Linda Parker’s OSU has three other all-round gymnasiums. And participated in all four events. Chris Femling, Carol Holmes, Connie Shuya. Maryberg, Nancy Holmes and Laura Shuya conclude the team. Head coach Ron Ludwig was backed by Brian Lee, Jackie Johnson and Jill Jolly (Hicks).


Rita Emery led the 1979 and 1980 Beaver Softball teams to the Women’s College World Series, finishing 7th in 1979 and 5th in 1980. Ellen Margolis finished fifth at Oregon State University in 1981. Denny Smile has also been appointed. She pitched at WCWS from 1977 to 1979. She posted 0.75ERA at WCWS in 1979. She pitched in 5291/3 innings during her career at Oregon State University, scoring 1.31 ERA. She hit 326 and set a record of 50-25.


The 1972 Women’s Athletics 4×110 Relay Team featured Margaret George, Sue George, Connie Larsen and Jerino Red, finishing third in the nation. Seven years later, the 4×800 relay team won the national championship. Robin Blake, Castello Castello, Chris Trom, and Kathy Weston starred, with Lore Mosby contributing before being injured in front of the area.


Athletics student athletes Beth Smith (third in the nation for shot put, sixth in 1973 for the discus) and Linda Winter (third in the high jump in 1971) will also be appointed.


Four multisport student athletes will be appointed. they are:

  • Joan Heeter – She played softball, women’s basketball, volleyball, field hockey and athletics. Heater belonged to the undefeated 1968 and 1969 women’s basketball teams. She was also a member of the 1968 Athletics NCWSA Regional Championship Team.
  • Shirley Lagesty – He has participated three times in the United States and participated in five sports (women’s basketball, athletics, field hockey, softball and soccer) at Oregon State University. She also served as team captain in nine of the thirteen seasons.
  • Sherry Sevall – Three athletes: volleyball, basketball and tennis. She won the Pacific NW Championship three times, leading OSU to three conference titles. She was the top scorer for the women’s basketball team in 1967 and 1968.
  • Lyla Voth – Competing in gymnastics, track, basketball, bowling, softball, volleyball, field hockey and tennis. She was a member of the first Oregon State Gymnastics team to win the Pac-8 Championship. She was also a member of the six conference championship teams.

Fifteen student athletes join from a female boat:

  • Allen in April – Won Silver at HWWherry in 1969.
  • Janice Brown – Ranked second in the nation in 1975.
  • Diane Gribskoff-The first OSU woman to be selected for a national tryout. She was second in the nation in 1975.
  • Denise Jolley – Two medalists in 1967 and 1969. She was the first Oregon State University woman to win the National Championship at HWWherry in 1967.
  • Marcia Morley – Janet Shoenborn and teammate, won the bronze medal at Which in 1966.
  • Janet Shoenborn – Three medalists in 1966 and 1967. She was part of a two-man team with Marcia Morley, who was the first OSU to compete in the NWRA Championship.
  • Ellen Kinunen and Carol Illy – ranked third in the lightweight crew pair in 1972.
  • Bene Schleuniger and Tanya Duvall – 3rd in the lightweight crew pair in 1979.
  • Carol Schmidt, Bonnie Forses, Jan Brown, Jennifer Hartley, Karen Brull – Five people finished third in the 1974 Open Quad.

One coach, Astrid Hancock, who coached boats from 1965 to 1974 and coached swimming from 1972 to 1973, will be appointed. In Hancock’s nine-year career, female boats won one national title and nine other boat medals (top three each). Some others finished in the top 10. As a swimming coach, she was the first to help OSU be represented at the 1972 AIAW Championship.
