Pair Of Cowgirls Advance To Match Play In U.S. Women’s Amateur

University Place, Washington. (Chambers Bay) —- Female golfer at Oklahoma State University Madison Hinson-Torchard When Han Xuan Yu This week we advanced to match play for the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Chambers Bay. Hinson his torchards closed out the opening two rounds with his tie for 7th, and Yew’s par 73, 6,541-yard layout saw him tie for 16th.

Hinson Torchard carded rounds of 69 (4 under) and 71 (2 under) and Yu posted rounds of 71 (2 under) and 72 (1 under).

After 36 holes of stroke play, the 64 lowest scoring players advanced to match play.

“My dad and I have done a really good job positioning our tee shots onto the green, which gives us a lot of birdie chances. I’m just going out and having a good time.”

Match play is scheduled to run through Sunday, starting Wednesday with the Round of 64. Rounds of 32 and 16 will take place on Thursday, with the quarterfinals scheduled for Friday.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday and the championship match will be played on Sunday over 36 holes.

The US Women’s Amateur is open to female amateurs with a handicap not exceeding 5.4. The champion earns a gold medal and Robert Cox her trophy for her one year. You are also entitled to the following exemptions:

  • 2023 US Women’s Open (Pebble Beach Golf Links)
  • Next 10 U.S. Women’s Amateurs (if eligible)
  • The following 10 US Girls Juniors (if eligible)
  • The next 15 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateurs, or 15 years after the player qualified.
  • The next 15 US Senior Women’s Amateurs, or 15 years after the athlete qualified

The U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship marks the beginning of women’s competitive golf in this country. The women’s amateur was her one of her USGA’s first three championships, along with the US Amateur and US Open.

The first Women’s Amateur Championship was held in haste, one month after the 1895 Amateur and Open Championships.

A stroke-play format was chosen for the first championship, but the women’s amateur became a match-play competition in 1896 and has remained so since.

Many US women’s amateur champions have found success in professional golf. Among them is five-time champion Joan Gunderson-Kerner. Her Kerner’s record of eight her USGA titles is surpassed only by Bob Jones and Tiger Woods (nine). Other notable champions include Beth Daniel, Juli Inkster, Daniel Kang, Lydia Coe, Kelly Kuehne, Katherine Lacoste, Ann Sander, Pearl Singh, Louise Suggs, Carol Semple Thompson, and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
