Columbus was hosted in 2018. Dallas was hosted in 2017 and will be hosted again in 2033.
“San Antonio Sports is pleased and honored to be selected as a finalist by the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee,” said Jenny Kerns, Chief Operating Officer of San Antonio Sports, in a statement. It states.
Kerns, Managing Director of the San Antonio Regional Organizing Committee, pointed out the broad history of this event in San Antonio as an important selling point, including hosting its own tournament in 2021.
“Working with local Organizing Committee partners (San Antonio City, Visit San Antonio, UTSA, Incarnate Ward), past NCAA championships, including last year’s historic 64-team tournament, and unparalleled We have successfully hosted a volunteer team, and we are confident that the fourth female Final Four will enter the final round of returning to Alamo City, “Kerns said.
Alamodome 2021 Women’s Final Four HostHowever, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire tournament was moved to the San Antonio area, making it the largest event in the city since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.
July 1st is the deadline for San Antonio and other cities to submit final bids to a committee led by Duke Athletic Director Nina King.
Staff and committee members will visit the site in August and September.
The final vote and announcement will take place after the presentation to the Commission in mid-November.
“Thanks to all the cities that submitted the bids,” King said. “The growing interest in this bidding cycle from so many cities across the country is the result of the continued growth of women’s basketball and their support for this best national women’s championship.
“I am confident that the final fours on any of these sites will thrive.”
The Final Four is set for Cleveland in 2024, Tampa in 2025, and Phoenix in 2026.
