Seven under-the-radar Knicks to watch at NBA Summer League

Las Vegas — Knicks 2021-22 Rookie — Quentin Grimes, Jericho Sims and Miles McBride — will be the focus of their Summer League team. Their only 2022 draft topic, the second round selection, Trevor Keels, believes they also play a major role in the five games. However, there are many other intriguing players on the roster who can open their eyes.

Let’s take a look at some of the lesser-known faces of the team:

G Jean Montero

By far the most attractive name except last year’s rookie and keel. A 6-foot-2 guard from the Dominican Republic was once considered the first round pick, but his stock fell after a season in the new league, Overtime Elite, which pays high school students. He agreed to a contract for Exhibit 10 with Knicks after he was undrafted. Up to the draft, it was questionable among the scouts whether Montero could play a point guard, but he needs to have the opportunity to prove himself with the ball of the Knicks Summer League team.

F Ferron Hunt

Hunt joined Knicks on a two-way contract last March and played in two games. He posted impressive numbers to Westchester in the G League in a limited amount of time, averaging 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists in seven contests. He is working with Julius Randle and Jericho Sims in Dallas to prepare for the Summer League.

F Aamir Simms

This will be Sims’ second summer league stint with Knicks. Last summer, the 6’8 forward averaged 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. He then played for Westchester Knicks last season, with 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and less than 40% shade from depth. This is an important number for players trying to break into the NBA as a Stretch Big Man. Former Clemson star The Sims is intimate with Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars’ first quarterback.

F Vince Edwards

Four years ago, Edwards was the second round of jazz picks and was sent to Rockets that night. That was the beginning of my professional nomadic life and I’ve spent almost completely in the G League. The 26-year-old Edwards is an outlier in the summer league and has a gray beard compared to the young players around him. The 6-foot-8 former Purducer had his best season in the G League, scoring a career of 15.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists to Timberwolves affiliate Iowa Wolves.

GMJ Walker

A year ago, Westchester Knicks classic 6ft 5 Walker played in the team’s best 26 games, averaging 10.7 points. A prominent Florida player played two games against Sands last year on a 10-day COVID-19 hardship tax exemption contract and later returned to Westchester. This will be Walker’s second summer league with Knicks.

G D’Shawn Schwartz

A large 6’7 guard, he took advantage of an additional 19 years of COVID in college and played for Colorado and George Mason for five years. He averaged a career record of 15.5 points this past season at Atlantic 10 and was able to offer value as a knockdown 3-point shooter. Schwartz set Colorado’s record at the 2021 NCAA Tournament by shooting at least 38% of the shots from the depths in three of the five college seasons and hitting five three-pointers on the Georgetown route.

G Jarbon Blair

Fans of St. Johns will be familiar with this name. Blair helped Hoya win the Big East Tournament in 2021 before spending last season in Greece and Finland. A 6’4 southpaw from Canada has an infinite range of his jumpers.
