South Carolina women unanimous No. 1 in AP Top 25 hoops poll

South Carolina remains unanimously No. 1 in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll released Monday, and the Gamecocks are watching the active player of the year with a foot injury. Aaliyah Boston.

The Gamecocks received all 29 first-place votes in a poll released Monday, a day after Boston left the game with an injury. Coach Dawn Staley said Boston was “doubtful” going forward, but added, “The team doctor wasn’t too concerned.”

South Carolina’s next game is Tuesday’s home game against UCLA 15.

Stanford remained in second place after making it through the tournament in Hawaii. It was Cardinal’s coach Tara Vanderbier’s 618th appearance, joining the all-time record of the late Pat Summitt. Summitt’s team has missed the vote only 14 times in his Hall of Fame career at the University of Tennessee.

UConn, Ohio and Indiana rounded out the top five.

The Huskies are one of four Big East teams ranked this week, as the Market entered the poll in 24th place. It’s the first time the Big East has four ranked teams since the 2014 conference reorganization. The league so far has him 56 wins and 14 losses. Including going 8-2 against ranked teams this season.

Marquette coach Megan Duffy said of the Big East, “We’ve been trying to show a little more respect.” It’s been great going to the Bahamas, Creighton is doing what they’ve been doing since last season, it’s all about getting some of those quality wins.”

North Carolina moved up two spots to #6. 5 Iowa in the Phil Knight Tournament. Cyclones dropped to his eighth place.

The Tar Heels will visit the Hoosiers on Tuesday for the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Indiana heads home after winning two games in Las Vegas at a poor venue lacking basic necessities.

Notre Dame remains in seventh place, while Virginia Tech and Iowa finish in the top ten. Virginia Tech matched her all-time ranking at No. 9, entering the top 10 for the first time since 1999.

Tennessee dropped out of the polls this week for the 56th time in the poll’s 827-week history that the Lady Vols didn’t rank. Kansas State also dropped out, with Gonzaga taking her No. 23 spot.

Louisville dropped to 18th in this week’s polls after falling to South Dakota in the fifth-place game at Battle 4 Atlantis last week. This is the Cardinals’ lowest ranking since January 11, 2016.

Louisville finished in the top 10 in the 2017 preseason poll and has been out of the top 10 for 98 straight weeks since. It was the longest active streak.
