Tar Heels add to 2023 class in forward Zayden High

UNC Basketball is looking for a power forward to add to its 2023 class, and despite coming in late, has landed one at the four-star Seidenhigh.

This offseason is well known for the story of GG Jackson, who was dedicated to UNC basketball in the 2023 recruiting class. But the five-star power forward prospect played at his mother’s alma mater and chose to stay home in South Carolina — in fact, he’s retiring to qualify as a Gamecock next season. Classified.

That meant the Tar Heels didn’t have a power forward in the 2023 class, a position they needed. Knowing that Northwest move and prospective starter Pete Nance will only be around for a year, it’s likely that star big man Armando Bako won’t be around a year from now either, so Jackson’s was expected to remain and become the center of the attack.

The team quickly pivoted to some of the top options remaining in the class, emerging at Zayden High, a top 75 talent in the class with a consensus 4 stars. Yes, he can score from his surroundings and is very skilled. His potential has made him very attractive for top programs in the country.

last week, hi Final list of 5 teams, including North Carolina. Power hitters from Michigan, Texas, Villanova, and Arkansas also participated, but in the end he was won by the ACC program.

high He becomes the second current commitment in the 2023 class, joining five-star guard/forward Simeon Wilcher. He’s part of a future frontcourt nucleus that includes four-star freshman Jaren Washington, along with Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson and Will Shaver.

The latest commit should be well positioned to score minutes early on, and he’s well-suited to head coach Hubert Davis on a four-out offense and how he likes to spread the floor. High is one of the best frontcourt players to achieve that, so in some ways, he’s a perfect fit for this program.

An argument is still possible that Tar Heels prefers Jackson and the caps he offers, but having Zaiden High for three to four years is equally beneficial to the program in the long run. We have two quality commits and need to look for a ball handler to round out the class.
