Texas Tech collective offers $25,000 NIL contracts to 100 players, ranking among biggest team-wide deals

Texas Tech’s collective promises to sign numerous walk-ons to all scholarship players and $ 25,000 name, image, and portrait (NIL) contracts. The Matador Club, jointly run by five Texas Tech graduates, has signed a one-year contract that allows 100 players (all 85 scholars and 15 walk-ons) to renew for next season. I suggested to do it. According to founding member Cody Campbell, co-CEO of DoublePoint Energy, more than 1,000 people have donated to the group.

“Collective has done things in different ways,” Campbell said. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.. “Some of them pay a lot to individual players. I see others doing different things, but what we really want to do is the whole program. It’s like supporting a man’s base salary. They aren’t. Doing other NIL things with others is limited. In fact, we do. I will encourage and support you.

Collective bargaining agreements are ranked as one of the largest deals for the entire team in all college football. Last year, Miami players were offered a $ 500 / month contract by the American Top Team, a local fitness chain. BYU’s Walk-on received a NIL scholarship covering tuition by the protein bar Built Brands, and scholarship players were able to receive $ 1,000. The Texas group also provided $ 50,000 to aggressive linemen through a charity called “Horns with Heart.”

However, Texas Tech is ranked as perhaps the largest product for a complete roster of players, costing $ 2.5 million in total. Instead, players need to provide community services around Lubbock and other cities in West Texas.

The announcement comes just days after Texas Tech announces plans based on a $ 200 million football facility renewal, including the Jones AT & T Stadium end zone complex.

The Matador Club claims to have consulted with NCAA lawyers in setting group rules and guidelines. However, the NCAA’s Articles of Incorporation regarding compensation and booster involvement have not been meaningfully tested in the first year of the NIL.

“We’re not going to play the game,” Campbell said of recruiting incentives. “Now, with all the players on our list winning $ 25,000, we’re confident that Texas Tech will be known to have a great NIL program to appeal to new hires, but the front end. I’m not going to break the rules. “

First-year coach Joey McGuire got off to a brilliant start on the hiring path. The Red Raiders have taken first place in the country at once and are ranked 16th with 23 commitments. Isaiah Crawford, the Top 247 linebacker in the Texas Post, is ranked 109th in the class.
