The Boston Celtics defeated rival Los Angeles Lakers 111-102. They won the title at home in front of a noisy crowd in Boston Garden.
Boston was an inefficient shooter, but dominated the glass throughout the game. Boston rebounded at Los Angeles 52-33. That led to a dramatic increase in opportunities from the Celtics free throw line. They shot 43-51 in free throws and the Lakers shot 18-28 in free throws.
Cedric Maxwell paved the way for the Celtics. He finished with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Larry Bird had 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar scored 29 points at the Lakers, but was limited to six rebounds. Magic Johnson had 16 points and 15 assists.
Larry Bird was selected as the Final MVP.
The Lakers took revenge on the Celtics next season and played six games in the 1985 NBA Finals.
