The final DII women’s basketball Power 10 rankings of the first half

As we approach the New Year and the second half of the DII women’s basketball season, one thing is certain. That means the Midwest region will be all-out battle royale. The top three teams from the Midwest are the best not only in the region, but in the country as a whole.

The top of the Power 10 ranking hasn’t changed much since the last time the holiday tournaments ended and the winter break started. A few moves in the bottom half set the stage for 2023. These are her final DII Women’s Basketball Power 10 rankings for 2022 and are a good indicator of what to expect when the second half resumes.

Looking back: First Regular Season Power 10 Ranking

Remember, NCAA.com’s Power 10 ranking is mine and mine only. No committee votes. I like to blend the metrics used by selection committees with presbyopic tests and which teams are playing good basketball.

Regular Season 2nd DII Women’s Power 10 Ranking (Note: All games until December 23rd)

No. 1 Grand Valley State | Before: 1: My preseason No. 1 is still on top. The Lakers have a resume with wins all over the region, sweeping out GLVC and G-MAC foes and a big win over nationally-ranked GLIAC rivals Ferris State to move into the conference. Started playing. GVSU is on track to go into 2023, going 11-0, rolling in the top 10 scoring offense (84.1 points per game, ranked Rank 6) and scoring defense (53.1 points per game, ranked Rank 7).

No.2 Ashland | Before: 2: The Eagles are soaring and look almost unstoppable. His 12-0 start for them includes a win over Drury and his strong 6-0 start in G-MAC play. Annie Roshak leads her one of DII’s most dynamic offenses, but her Zoe Miller move from Bowling Green was a big X-factor, scoring her second on the team. doing. The Eagles’ ability to share the ball and spread out attacks (with nearly 21 assists per game that put him leading the DII) makes the Eagles a tough juggernaut to stop.

No.3 Dry | Before: 3: The Panthers are the third Midwest team in the #1 mix. As I said last time, considering that we were one point behind 2nd place Ashland in extra time, we won’t be able to hold back a single loss. Drury recovered with his seven straight wins, all of which ended in fiasco. As usual, the Panthers have depth, but Kayleigh Damitzholt, Alana He Findlay, and Therion Moore are the deadly ‘Big Three’, and beating this team on both sides of the ball is a very It Is difficult.

No. 4 County Grenville | Before: 5: The defending champions seem to be getting more comfortable with this offense and appear to be scoring around 93 points per game. It’s tough for them to have his one loss against the MEC title-threatening Charleston (WV) team, but that would make his Feb. 22 rematch even better. As usual, this strong offense is led by an opportunistic defense, with the Pioneer leading his DII with 16.9 steals per game, fueling a high-octane offense.

All stats teams: Dreams starting with the 5 best stats until November

No.5 West Washington | Before: 6: The 2022 national runner-up is on track, with seven straight wins heading into the break. The Vikings’ only loss came on opening night, a one-point loss to nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific, but they clearly had that in mind. They thrashed nationally-ranked San Marcos, California, holding their opponents to just 56.1 points per game during their seven-game winning streak. They resume their game against GNAC rivals Alaska Anchorage this weekend for an extensive test to open the second half.

No. 6 Central Missouri | Former 10 (Tie): Jenny is playing very good basketball, but most impressively, she’s defying one of DII’s toughest schedules. Post his 8-0 record against a .627 opponent schedule, and you’ll know everything you need to know about the start of the season. Brook Littrell started the season with Player of the Year numbers, averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds nightly. MIAA is stacked. Missouri With his win over Southern, Central Missouri is in control…for now.

No.7 Tampa | Before: 9: The Spartans keep rolling and are now 11-0 with some strong résumé making wins along the way. He capped off his pre-break slate with a 16-point victory over then-power-10 and nationally-ranked West Texas A&M. Sidney Kin leads the scoring lead, but the team is dangerously high scoring with five starting players.

No. 8 Missouri Southern | Before: 8: Yes, the Lions lost to Central Missouri. Yes, technically he is ahead of him by three teams in the MIAA standings. But seeing how he sits 11-1 against the 5th toughest schedule in DII (a ridiculous .694 total win percentage for opponents) shows just how tough this team is. I understand. His brutal two-game stretch of his first week in January against Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney tells us much more. Lacy Stokes said he is one of the best players in DII and will lead this team by a large margin.

9. Minnesota | Before: 4: The Mavericks are off to an impressive 10-1 start, but a loss to Southwestern Minnesota to end the first half only slightly worsened their resume.Still, this team played 21st It was the toughest schedule in the division, so to open things up with a 10-game win streak is impressive, and we’re still in the top 10 so far. I like the depth of scoring power in the Top 6. They dominate the competition, winning games by an average of about 15 points per game. This should be an interesting run through his NSIC in Minnesota.

No. 10 (tie) Lenoir-Rhyne, Assumption | Before: 10th (tie), respectively unranked: Rounding out 2022 is an undefeated pair of teams.why are they tied at 10th spot? Neither has a very tight schedule. In fact, Lenoir-Rhyne has played one of DII’s most flexible schedules to date.

Still, the Bears went from 11-14 to 13-0 a year later, which is an impressive feat. They are scoring 77 points per game, winning each match by about 20 points. Just a year ago he won 12 bouts for the Greyhounds, statistically speaking he’s already 11-0, despite a pretty grueling schedule. His flawless 5-0 start at NE10 is also big. It will be really interesting to see how both teams fare after the winter layoffs.
