The San Antonio Spurs won a big hit when they won the 1997 NBA Draft lottery.
They ended up with a record of 20-62 last season as David Robinson missed most of it due to a back injury. Despite the bad records of the three teams, the Spurs won the lottery and used picks from Wake Forest to Tim Duncan.
Big Man played in the Wake Forest for four seasons, leading to a smooth transition from college to the NBA. He won the New Face Award in 1998 and formed Instant Chemistry with Robinson.
The pair led the Spurs to their first championship on June 25, 1999, just two years after Duncan was drafted.
This was the first of Duncan’s five championships, which was selected as the three Finals MVP. He has also been nominated twice as a regular season MVP and has become an All-Star 15 times.
The Spurs dynasty’s dream came true when he won the lottery and soon chose Duncan, who became one of the NBA’s most dominant players.
He is San Antonio’s greatest leader in points, rebounds, blockshots and games played in both regular and postseason.He later retired 19 wonderful seasons With Spurs.
Duncan was inducted into the first ballot Hall of Fame earlier this year.
