Cameron Woods appointed head coach of Oklahoma City Blue

oklahoma city, From September 23, 2022 The Oklahoma City Thunder have named Chip Engeland and Grant Gibbs as assistant coaches, the team announced today. Joining Assistant Coach/Player Development Eric Mayner and Assistant Coach/Program Development Connor Johnson to work on the staff of Head Coach Mark Digneaux. Additionally, Cameron Woods has been named head coach of the Oklahoma City Blues.

Engellund joins the Thunder with 23 years of NBA coaching experience. He has spent the last 17 his seasons with the Spurs as his assistant coach and twice he won the NBA Championship (2007, 2014). The California native began his coaching career as an analyst for his shooting team in Detroit for the Pistons, before working with the Nuggets for two of his seasons as director of player development. A graduate of Duke University, Engeland played four seasons with the Blue Devils, becoming his captain on the team in his senior year. He also enjoyed his nine-year professional career in the Philippines, Canada and the CBA.

Gibbs joined the Thunder’s bench after serving as the Blue’s head coach for the past three seasons. He will be Blue’s third head coach to join the Thunder’s coaching staff. During the 2021-22 season, Gibbs helped lead the Blues to his game in the championship in his first year of the G League showcase his championship. He joined the Thunder organization as Blue’s assistant coach in 2017 after his three-year international playing career that included stints in the Netherlands and Germany. Gibbs had a successful career at Gonzaga University and then captained his team at Creighton University.

Woods is set to take over head coaching duties at the Blue after spending the past four seasons with the organization, most recently serving as an assistant coach for the Thunder. In 2015, he played two seasons (2015-2017) for Blue. This past July, Woods was the head coach of the Thunder’s summer league team, leading Oklahoma City to a 5-3 record in summer league competitions in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
