Tiffany Jackson: Former All-American basketball player dies from breast cancer at 37, according to university

Jody Conrad, Jackson’s coach at the University of Texas from 2003 to 2007, said in a statement from the university:

Current Los Angeles Sparks player and 2014 No. 1 overall pick, Chinay Ogumike, offered his condolences. Twitter postnote the impact Jackson had on her career.

“One of the first college basketball games my sister and I went to was at the University of Texas…and Tiffany Jackson immediately influenced everything,” said Ogwumike.

“May her soul rest in peace and send love to her family.”

Jackson is a three-time All-American in four years with the Longhorns and was the fifth overall draft pick in the 2007 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft.

The Texas native spent nine seasons from 2007-2018 with three WNBA franchises. New York Liberty, former Tulsa Shock, retired Los Angeles Sparks in May 2018.

Jackson was first diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in September 2015 while a member of Shock. She was successfully treated and she made her notable comeback, returning to professional activity in Israel before signing with Sparks in February 2017.

Jackson was announced as head coach of Wiley College’s women’s basketball team in April 2022 after spending four years as an assistant to the Texas program.
