Trinity Thomas Named Co-Winner of 2022 SEC Woman of the Year Award

Another honor of the season full of praise for Florida gymnasts Trinity Thomas..

Thomas is one of the two representatives of the Southeastern Conference as a candidate for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. Thomas and Georgia runner Samantha Drop was selected from 20 female student athletes nominated by the SEC program.

The NCAA announced the names of 577 school candidates on July 14... Thomas is one of the ten gymnasts nominated for this award and one of the five Honda Prize-winning candidates in the sport or category.

With today’s conference selection announcement, the NCAA Woman of the Year has 156 candidates. It consists of 53 NCAA Division I, 39 DII, DIII 59 student athletes and 5 people participating in sports not hosted by the school’s primary conference. The committee is currently narrowing the list to the top 30 NCAA Women of the Year.

The NCAA Woman of the Year Awards recognize outstanding female student athletes on and off the field. This honor honors athletic excellence, academic performance, community service and leadership.

Thomas graduated with an excellent grade in April 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physiology and Kinematics-Fitness Wellness. She began earning her master’s degree in her health education and behavior this summer.

About NCAA Woman of the Year

The NCAA Woman of the Year Program was launched in 1991. It celebrates academic performance, athletics excellence, community services, and leadership for female college students graduated from all three categories. To qualify, candidates must participate in NCAA-sponsored sports, obtain a varsity letter, and have a bachelor’s degree by the summer of 2022.

Award process:

  • Target Female Students-Athletes Recommended by Schools
  • School recommendations considered at each meeting.Conference finalists will be transferred to NCAA
  • The NCAA Woman of the Year Committee narrows the list to 30 and selects 10 from each department.
  • 3 finalists in each department, 9 finalists in total
  • The NCAA Women’s Athletics Commission has declared one of the nine finalists the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. The Top 30 Winners will be celebrated and the Woman of the Year will be selected at the NCAA Convention. The 2023 tournament will be held in January in San Antonio.
