UConn earns women’s basketball Team of the Week honors after top-10 wins

Two weeks into the season, the UConn Huskies continue to handle all adversity in a big way.

Named NCAA.com Team of the Week, UConn improved to a 3-0 record in their young season, moving up two places in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll to beat their then-third-place finish to 3 overall. I got the rank. Last week he was No. 3 Texas and he was No. 10 North Carolina.

Fudd’s recent heroics included winning back-to-back 32 points over two top 10 teams last week. On Monday night against Texas, Fudd dropped his career-high 32 points on 13-of-21 shooting and added four assists as UConn won his 83-76. In her 91–69 win against North Carolina State on Sunday, she scored again a career-high 32 points, scoring 12 of her 24 tries from the field, and scoring two steals and a Added her two rebounds. In one week she shot a .556. This includes her three-shot .476.

With their victory over North Carolina State, the Huskies recovered from a terrifying pregame moment. That’s when Chris Daly, the Huskies’ longtime associate head coach, passed out after the national anthem. She was tended to on the court by medical personnel for several minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. The 63-year-old waved and smiled at the crowd as she left the court. The UConn players returned to the locker room shaken and in tears after the match was delayed by 10 minutes. Daly texted his players during the game to say they were okay.

UConn scored the first nine points after making themselves up, leading to a 23-13 lead one quarter later. Fudd scored 11 points in the period and 22 in the half as the Huskies led the Wolfpack 40–33 and never looked back. Senior Lou Lopez-Senechal and junior Aaliyah Edwards backed Fudd with 20 points each, while junior guard Nika Mule broke UConn’s school record with 15 assists. It was a rematch of the team’s Double OT Thriller in the Elite Eight of last season’s NCAA Tournament at the Regionals.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend at the Phil Knight Legacy in Portland, Oregon. UConn kicks off his tournament with Duke on Friday, November 25th, and will face either Iowa State or Oregon State on Sunday, November 27th.
