UConn guard Azzi Fudd (knee) expected to miss 3-6 weeks

UConn Girls Basketball Sophomore Aji Fad A right knee injury she sustained in the Huskies’ first quarter loss to Notre Dame on Sunday is expected to keep her out for three to six weeks, UConn announced Tuesday.

Fudd was evaluated on Monday and an MRI confirmed the injury.

After his teammate collapsed on his right knee, Fudd exited the game briefly in the locker room before rejoining the game for four minutes. She did not play in the second half, but coach Geno Auriemma said she was taking no precautions at the time.

Fudd, who participated in the Huskies’ showdown and was a National Player of the Year candidate averaging 24.0 points per game, had an unfortunate history of injuries, tearing the MCL and ACL in his right knee in April 2019. he is still in high school. During his first season at UConn, his foot injury saw him miss his 11 games from December through January.

UConn already lacks 2020-21 National Player of the Year paige bookers (ACL) season, and freshmen ice brady (Patellar dislocation).graduate student Dorka Juhas Expected to be back soon, he has missed the last five games with a broken thumb.

Auriemma knows short-handed huskies really face adversity, but she’s not going to wave the white flag early in the season.

“We won’t win or lose at the national championships on December 4,” Auriemma said Sunday. “But you get to know what might help you win in the future or prevent you from winning in the future.”

Then – no. 3 UConn went 6-0 into the contest on Sunday before Fudd went down, ultimately losing to his then-no. 7 Notre Dame of South Bend 74-60. The Huskies entered conference play after he fell to No. 6 in his latest AP poll and faced Princeton, No. 20 Maryland, and Florida State.

After that, UConn has two non-conference games left in the new year. On January 26th against Tennessee and he finished his No. 1 and defending his championship game against South Carolina on February 5th in Connecticut. If Fudd’s recovery timeline stays between her three weeks and her six weeks, she could return to folding in those matchups.
