USWNT vs. Haiti score: Alex Morgan’s first-half brace secures 3-0 win in Concacaf W Championship opener

The US women’s national team defeated Haiti 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament in Monterey, Mexico, launching the 2022 Conca Cuff W Championship in style.

The United States stopped several opportunities from Haiti, including a penalty kick miss that bounced off the post, but in the 84th minute Alex Morgan’s first half brace and Midge Perth’s second half goal were enough to secure three points. Was an American on the road to qualifying for the World Cup and the Olympics.

Morgan became the star of the show by flicking a goal from Mallory Pugh’s cross in the 16th minute. He then sent a cross from Kelley O’Hella home in the 23rd minute.

The San Diego Wave Star also hit the header woodwork in the 11th minute, putting pressure on the Haitians early on. Morgan has 21 goals in her 21 appearances in qualifying, including at least one goal in five consecutive qualifying rounds.

Haiti had a strong chance

This team has several players on the current roster that were part of the 2018 U-20 Women’s World Cup team. Team friendliness is an additional benefit when playing against teams in the Concacaf region.

The team got a great chance in the 7th minute. KethnaLouis’s chance of a free kick missed the far post slightly.

Dumorney had a clear chance to beat a few US defenders in the 37th minute with Murphy alone and win in the box, but couldn’t finish.

VAR debuts at Concuff W Championship

The video assistant referee made his debut in the Concacaf W Championship and had a moment of use. By the end of the match, USWNT had two goals called back, the potential penalty for an offside position was eliminated and the red card issued to Haiti was revoked.

Shortly before half-time, Roselord Borgera collided with O’Hara and made full contact with the studs at a high angle with a 50/50 ball and a red card was issued. Yellow was issued instead.

The USWNT finally scored a third goal as Mewis served the box. Due to the clearance failure, Purce was able to connect to the goal in the box later in the game.

The United States will face Jamaica in the second of three group stage games on Thursday.Kick-off at 7 pm ET Paramount +, Studio coverage begins at 6:30 pm ET.
