Warriors plead for consistency after Jordan Poole carrying calls vs. Heat

Jordan Poole was called for more carry violations than the entire Miami Heat team in Tuesday night’s 116-109 loss to the Warriors at FTX Arena.

The 23-year-old guard had a tough night, scoring 9 points on 3-of-10 shots from the field and 1-of-7 shots from behind the arc. He also committed five turnovers, three of which were carry violations.

Apparently, the NBA is focused on putting a lot of weight on those who carry the calls.

Tuesday, he surprised Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

“I think there was an email that was sent today, but to be honest, I didn’t check the email,” Kerr told reporters in Miami after the loss. “For example, we had a game today and I didn’t see the email. I was shocked because basically the whole league is doing it. They said Allen Iverson was not a carry to the referee. Since then, I have continued to do so.

“It’s a carry. It’s a carry that Jordan does, but the whole league does it. I think I started checking my email on game days.”

Draymond Green echoed Kerr’s opinion, saying that if he was to be called, he would need to be called on both ends of the floor.

Miami was whistled once for a carry violation at the hands of Caleb Martin, but Green believes it should have been more.

“If you’re going to call it, it’s better to call it because every guard in the NBA carries it. There are a lot of them,” Green told reporters after the game. “Some of the best ballhandlers in the NBA carry often. If that’s the point, let’s look at that. That’s great, but let’s see.

“But they get one, I love Kyle [Lowry]i love jimmy [Butler], they are great. But they don’t play the whole game. So if you only get one and you think it was on Caleb Martin, it doesn’t get much emphasis. ”

Poole was clearly not happy with the call and was officially throwing a nuanced shot, as shown in an Instagram story shortly after the game.
