Warriors recall James Wiseman after seven games with G League Santa Cruz

SAN FRANCISCO — James Weisman is on his way back to the Warriors.

The Warriors announced Tuesday afternoon that Wiseman was recalled from the G League. The team left for Utah on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Jazz at Vivint Arena.

A former No. 2 overall pick, he played seven games for the Santa Cruz Warriors. Weisman averaged 15.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 26.6 minutes per game. In his 11 NBA games this season, Weisman averaged 13.4 minutes, 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. As a rookie in the 2020-21 season, Weisman averaged 21.4 minutes, 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

In the final game of the G League on Saturday night, Wiseman was plus 17, the best plus/minus in a seven-game stint. Weisman scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in an 11-point win.

Weisman spent three weeks in the G League in constant practice and match rep. The Warriors hope this decision will help them in the short term, but it will pay off big in the long run.
