Will Emmanuel Ansong have an impact in 2022-23?

Vanderbilt Basketball has acquired a new pickup in Green Bay transfer Emmanuel Anthon. Can he provide frontcourt help for next season?

Entering August, most of the rosters have been finalized in one way or another, but even without a home in 2022-23 NCAA Basketball, there are still some open roster spots, as well as several transfers. It remains in the portal. Season.

One of them is Emmanuel Anson, who left Green Bay at the end of last season after finishing 5-25 (4-16) overall. Starting at 6’4 he’s a forward averaging 11.0 ppg and he’s 5.0 rpg and last season he was 29 mpg and 28 starts. Anson There were some big games, including 19 points and 8 rebounds against Indiana State and 18 and 10 against the Florida International, his only double-double.

With one year of qualification left, Ansong was in the portal for a while, but was eventually picked up by Vanderbilt Basketball.

At first glance, it’s an interesting move for Anson. SEC, is probably the top basketball conference in the country. He’s been solid in the Horizon League, but certainly not a star, and at 6’4, very small to be a power in the 3 or 4 spots. It will further affect his attacks.

But what the Commodores want is a frontcourt “in case of emergency” player in case players like Quentin Mirala-Brown and Liam Robbins, who have a history of injuries, go down again. Vanderbilt isn’t a very big team considering 6’5 guard Jordan Wright led the team with his 6.4 rpg last season. So any kind of help the team can add to that department is a boost.

Ansong is a solid rebounder, but at his 6’4 height, it’s hard to see how effective he will be in that role for the Commodores this season. But if nothing else, the Green Bay transferee is a veteran, a practice body, and a versatile player for someone like Wright to work with and grow with.
