Women’s college basketball Power Rankings

The top of the women’s college basketball power rankings has been repeated 1-2 by South Carolina and Stanford since preseason. After that, things weren’t so constant.

So far, two teams are in third place: Texas and UConn. This week, Ohio will rise to its place. The Huskies slipped a bit and the Longhorns dropped out of the Power Rankings in Week 2 with his 4-4 record and are likely to be out of the AP vote this week as well.

How do you balance Ireland’s big win over UConn with a last-second loss to Maryland beaten by Nebraska at home? Can LSU make the Top 10 if they’re not playing?

When was the last time the Louisville women’s and men’s teams went 5-12 combined to start the season? lost to The Cardinals are (spoiler alert) off the power rankings.

Louisville could join Texas in closing the AP Women’s poll, which is released Monday. Tennessee has already done so. All three teams were in the top 10 in preseason.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, it’s the first time multiple teams ranked in the top 10 preseason are out of the ballot before the fifth ballot this season.

In fact, it’s only happened three times in total since women’s voting was expanded to 25 teams in 1989-90. Oregon last season, Louisville in 2015-16 and Georgia in 1991-92.

Louisville recovered in 2015-16, finishing the season 26-8. So we’ll see if better days come for the Cardinals (and the Longhorns and Lady Vols).
