Women’s Soccer Selected Fourth In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

Providence, Rhode Island – Providence College’s women’s soccer team was voted 4th with 69 points in the BIG EAST preseason coaches’ poll. Georgetown, where she was ranked 19th in her preseason national poll by the United Soccer Coaches for 2022, surpassed her BIG EAST with 98 points and her 1st place vote of 8 votes.junior forward Meg Hughes (Rochester, MA) was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. BIG EAST announced today (August 11) his coaching votes and preseason honors for the 2022 preseason.

The Flyers are looking to return to the BIG EAST Tournament for the eighth time in nine years under the guidance of their head coach. Sam LopezProvidence lost 2-1 to St. John’s in the quarter-finals of last season’s BIG EAST tournament. Monks will also be looking to make his return to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. In 2021, the Flyers won his first public bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1993, in which he lost 3–0 to Hofstra in the first round.

Hughes, who was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team last season, started all 20 games for the Friars. She led the Monks in points (22) and goals (9) and tied the team for second place in assists (4).Hughes now tied for 18thth With 36 points in two seasons, he is the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Providence College kicks off the season against Colgate University on Thursday, August 18 at Chapay Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island.
