WVU Travels to Georgetown to Cap Nonconference Slate

MORGANTOWN, Wisconsin – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team wraps up its non-conference slate on its way to Washington, DC to face Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff at GU’s show field is set for 1 p.m. ET.

The contest will be the 26th all-time matchup between West Virginia and Georgetown as the Mountaineers hold a 16-6-3 advantage in the series. WVU and Georgetown have faced off as ranked opponents in his four of his last five regular season games dating back to 2016.

The two teams met for the first time in WVU’s first season on October 9, 1996, when the Mountaineers defeated Georgetown 1–0 at home. In last season’s contest, the team fought to a scoreless draw in his double overtime on September 9, 2021 at Morgantown.

In their last matchup, WVU drew 0-0 with Bucknell on September 11 at Morgantown. The Mountaineers had 13 shots, of which he scored six, but were unable to combine them to find the back of the net. Massey did her part to save the shutout, stopping three Bison shots on goal. West Virginia outscored Bucknell 13-6, including a 6-3 advantage in shooting on goal and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Dave Nolan is in his 19th season at the helm of Georgetown’s women’s soccer program, winning 243 career games. He led the team to his 10th straight NCAA Tournament and two College Cup semifinal appearances. The Hoyas are 3-1-3 so far this season, with a 3-0 win over William & Mary on September 11th.

Freshman forward Henry Tippens leads the team with five goals, while senior Gia Vicari has set the pace with three assists this season. Freshman goaltender Carla Martin leads the Hoyas in goals with a save percentage of 0.684 in 17 saves.
