Georgia lineman Devin Willock, football staffer die in car crash hours after championship celebration

Georgia Offensive lineman Devin Willock and soccer staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash, the school announced. Another aggressive lineman, Warren McLendon, and recruiting staffer Tory Bowles were injured in the crash and are in stable condition.

“Entire Georgia families are devastated by the tragic deaths of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staffer Chandler LeCroy,” said a spokesperson for the state of Georgia. Both are in stable condition and will continue to monitor their condition with medical personnel.

“Devin and Chandler were two very special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families during this very difficult time. I would like to have it.”

Athens-Clark County Police responded to the one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning, police reports said the vehicle “was driving south on the outside lane of Barnett Shoals Road when the vehicle was It left the road and hit two utility poles and several trees.”

According to reports, Willock died at the scene from his injuries. LeCroy was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries. McLendon suffered minor injuries, but Bowles had more serious injuries.

“We are all heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. He always had a smile on his face and was a great teammate and a joy to coach.Chandler was a valuable member of our football staff and brought an unbelievable attitude and energy every day. We grieve with them and thank the bereaved families of this tragic loss and support them in every way possible.”

Willock, 20, has played all 15 games for Georgia this season, Tennessee When kentuckywas a member of Georgia’s 2020 Hiring Class. LeCroy, 24, earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Georgia and worked as an analyst for his recruiting program football.
